Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua, popularly known as Anthony Joshua, was born on October 15, 1989, in Watford, Hertfordshire, England. He is of Nigerian heritage—his father, Robert Joshua, has both Nigerian and Irish roots, while his mother, Yeta Odusanya, is fully Nigerian from the Yoruba ethnic group.
Joshua spent part of his early childhood in Nigeria before returning to the United Kingdom at the age of 12.
